Week 20 - It aint half hot

Hotter than the Bahamas, Tenriffe and all sorts of other lovely holiday places, Newquay bakes in the intense sun this weekend which didn't start out until Saturday afternoon for the Murphys as we see Bronwyn off on her weeks trip to Italy and Venice and a great time she's having aswel judging by the phone calls we've had this week. The Caerphilly Pinks have not made the trip this time- Jonathan citing lack of sleep last weekend as a reason, and who can blame him as being forced to get up at 3.30 on a Sunday afternoon is enough to take it out of anyone for sure.

I often wonder why people who go abroad all the time seem to spend most of their time drinking and lying around the pool - well this weekend was a reminder why as the weather was just too hot to do anything else. Thankfully the veranda has been restored so some top quality steaks and bottles of champagne (perhaps not the toppest of quality in that particular dept) were sacrificed as we sat around and basically did nothing other than chat to the neighbours on a fantastic evening for BBQing. No wind and ambient lighting to the fore - a lovely evening was had by all.

The next day seemed even hotter - what is going on here? If this is global warming count me in. A sumptuous breakfast which expands the already outward bound wastelines was enjoyed on the veranda but it is still getting hotter. Amanda and I drive to Aberaeron to buy a parasol but cannot park anywhere so end up going to Aberystwyth to get one - and only just managing to get the last one available in Argos before driving to Newquay and kicking the Barbie off again. Its just too nice to go home so we make the decision to stay on and get up early on Monday morning and drive home.

At about 8pm I have my last beer and come inside whilst Ann - who has set a new BBQ eating record this weekend and Amanda carry on outside until about 10 ish when they too come inside and settle down to a DVD for the night.

Watching a DVD in Brainland is a strange experience - John cannot stop himself from talking all through the film and Bethan, hewn from the same stone, is an eager accomplice. Ann who by now is getting nudged regularly by John as she falls in and out of consciousness stops momentarily only for a quick snore here and there to add to the theatre. Eventually after the film - the exorsism of Emily Rose -which was quite a good film I thought - ends, we all go to bed only for Ann to have a second wind and start chopsing and keeping everyone awake.

5.30 am we get up - Ann is now sound asleep - and head home for work in what is inevitably a long day - well it seemed like a good idea at the time.

No caravan next week as Bronwyn won't be home from Italy until 4pm on Saturday afternoon whilst the Brains enjoy record temperatures in Newquay on their fortnights vacation.
