Week 28 - Sitting on the edge

Friday night lift off or not? The later we leave it the less chance there is of actually making the trip - this week we nearly didn't get going on Saturday after an evening session accross the road at home led to hang overs that were just surmountable later on in the morning - but get going we eventually did and were glad we made the effort as the weekend was a lovely one.

Ann and John after arriving on Friday had made their way to Aberystwyth whislt Amanda and I just went down the beach in front of us - Amanda with a deckchair and book and me with my binoculars and camera. The sun was quite strong with just a light breeze and the two of us spent quite an idylic afternoon on the mostly deserted beach. The highlight of my day was watching the terns for a few hours diving into the water and catching fish - they are quite rare in this partof the world but just sitting on a rock at the edge of the sea watching was a really chilled way to spend a Saturday afternoon for me at least.
After a few hours we made our way back to base to watch a bit of rugby and open the first bottle of wine, although the events of the previous night were still a bit fresh in my mind so I left it to everyone else to sample the faire on offer. Later on John and I joined up with Clive and his mate Rob from next door for a few frames of snooker up the club. This was quite a tight affair until Clive found unbelivable form and blew the rest of us away. In fact in the last frame me and John took a complete pasting as with about two balls left we were about 60 points down while Rob insisted on keeping the score board moving over just to complete the humiliation. I'm citing delayed hangover as an excuse and will be back again before the end of the year to claim revenge. Sunday came along and was another lovely day so we decided to make tracks for Nant Bwlch yr Arian, minus Bethan who was in a foul mood and wouldn't come - never mind - only problem was the Kites weren't due to be fed until after three and everyone was starving so after a quick lap of the lake and afterI bored the RSPB volunteers with my Tern stories and John insisted on letting them know he was an egg stealer in his youth - we made our way to Wetherspoons in Aberystwyth for a lovely Sunday dinner.Which more or less ended the day after a bit of tidying up and home to watch Jane Eyre (which was a bit disappointing to be honest but there you go).

Next weekend Ann and John are heading for the delights of Porthcawl with Ann and Mike for a weekend of Elvis and drinking by the seaside. Must admit to not being the biggest Elvis fan in the world but I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun. Me and Amanda are not sure of our plans just yet so will keep an eye on the weather forecast and play things by ear however there are 6 cans of Miller and a bottle of Chablis in the fridge chilling so will doubtless make the effort - the weather can't last and perhaps a last surf of the season may be in the offing - my monies on hangover stops play once again.
