Week 12 & 13 Spring Bank

Spring Bank Holiday week started out so badly the Murphys didn't get down until Sunday afternoon as Saturdays rain just washed the colour off the day. Another disaster followed on the way to the van as the numerous middle class weekend Hells Angels had formed an orderly queue stretching some 50 yards and depriving us of the now customary Bacon Rolls on the Brecon Beacons en route.

Anyway - arriving at the Van just in time to see John hammering the last few nails into the Veranda, we were met by the full caravan touring party for the first time this year complete with the Pink Caerphilly Brains and debuting little Lewis who was as good as gold for the whole time he was there. After unpacking it was nearly time to start the weekends entertainment with the traditional family barbeque only this time with the added dimension that Mr Pink brings to the party with the new extreme sport of elastic band forehead slapping. Ann not being so experienced is shown here nearly about to top slice her head clean off.

Bank Holiday Monday was bright but a strong wind stopped any real outdoor activity so gave the kids a chance to look after their nephews during the day.

Karaoke up the owners club in the evening, with the men getting a few games of snooker in, was the order of the day which also saw Jonathan and Leanne stay on an extra night (mostly due to the free babysitting service of course ;o)

Tuesday - and the wind was still howling, which was a shame because it would have been a lovely day without it. Undaunted Murphys and normal coloured though somewhat wrinkly Brains take a trip over to Cardigan for an easy stroll around the Teiffi marshes with everyone trying to avoid having their photos taken except me who am desperate to get some front page exposure after making media stars of the rest of the group. Returning to the van,the Caerphilly branch had left and after some recoupertation and food John and Ann headed home for another few days also.
That wind is still blowing but it is such a bright day for sure - me and Amanda take a stroll along the beach in the evening before a bottle of wine and wait to see what the morning brings

Wednesday - this is the first half term week I've spent away from work in 11 years and right on queue the weather starts getting better as the wind drops. The kids have exams to revise for so me and Amanda drive up to Ynys Hir (without the binoculars I have had since I was14 years old which I am gutted to say have vanished without trace). We took a guided tour around the park on a butterfly walk which was more of a ramble and a chat to be honest but enjoyable none the less. By the time we got home the weather was so good it was charcoal and meat time again, much to the kids disgust, which finished off another brilliant day.

Thursday - off to Mwnt for the day - the kids revizing again so just me and wifey once again - this is getting like we've got our own life back again lately - lovely day it was aswel - Amanda just sat on the beach all day reading her books whilst I pottered about on the hillsides with my camera taking some bird shots (feathered of course) - Mwnt has to be my favourite beach anywhere - its beautiful, great snorkelling and sometimes awesome waves to surf. We've often been here, just the few of us, with an empty beach and although its starting to get a little fuller at this time of the year its still a great place. After chilling out all day we decided to eventually head back to Newquay and go out to dinner. I got a meal paid for by work so took the family down to the Welly for the night. All of a sudden revising was a thing of the past. Two bottles of wine, a few pints, a couple of ciders and the usual post Welly monster bellyful later, everyone was at caravan central tucked up for the night.

Friday - the weather is getting better and better. Amanda,Bethan and I head out for White Sands and StDavids on the Pembrokeshire coast where we decide to walk out to St Davids Head.
This is my second favourite place in the World- it is just stunning - beautiful coastal paths, clean sand, blue seas and on a good day huge barrelling waves to surf and as an added bonus a stunning Cathedral and poncey chocalate shop in town, which the girls love, that sells 10 hand made chocolates for a tenner and which I'm banned from because apparantly men can't 'savour' the chocolate (equivalent to about 20 Huge and more- gorgeous galaxy bars in my opinion) but anyway - you get the picture - on a sunny day its pretty hard to beat. After a fantastic day we headed back to the van for about 8'ish to meet up with Ann and John who had arrived for the weekend and started the BBQ up as all our friends reappear around the balconies of QuayWest for the weekend once again.

Saturday and everyone is just in lazing mood - the weather unbelievably is still getting hotter and nobody could be bothered to move far from the Veranda and just read or listened to music or,in Johns case, made more wooden storeage boxes under the Veranda - it was that sort of day. I went for a walk on my own accross the beach and noticed the huge Jelly Fish washed up on the shore- at least 40 dustbin size lid ones. Usually we have been in the water much earlier in previous years but this year it might take a little longer. Anyway -back at base for the last time this week, global warming is ignored once again in pursuit of BBQ perfection. Another few bottles of wine downed and chatting to the neighbours and friends on evenings like Saturday makes you realise why having a caravan like this is such a brilliant thing.

Sunday and the last day of a fab week. Ann and John shoot off to Aberaeron in the morning whilst the rest of us just mooch about the van as the temperature rizes steadily. We decide to take a walk to the lookout post just above Newquay and hopefully just chill out in the fields above the cliffs and hopefully see the dolphins in the water as we have before. The walk, which is not an easy one, is well worth the effort as the four of us (Bronwyn revising - Bethan studying TV) just chill out and watch the dolphins in the water beneath us for about an hour. This really is a fantastic spot - quiet, absolutely beautiful and the surrounding wildlife -Dolphins, Seals, Gannets, Razor bills and others are just mesmorising. The other wildlife, which were even more obvious, were the Jelly Fish in the blue waters - huge and everywhere - the dolphins sometimes rising from underneath and shaking them off their heads - yes it will be few weeks before I get the surf board out for sure. Walking along this stretch you also bump into other walkers admiring the scenary and chat - theres always some interesting and very nice folk about down here.

Anyway - walking back to the van brought an end to a week that started in terrible rain and ended as one of the best holidays we've had for a while - lets finish with a few photo memories until next week of course.......
