Week 14 - Gorgeousness

Big News this weekend as Ann and John buy a new caravan to replace old faithful and why not as Newquay in this weather is surely one of the most fantastic places in the World and as the Brains glance retirement on the horizon in the next few years what better place to while away the summer evenings.

Its always sad to see an old van go because it carries so many memories (and also a scorch mark where Bronwyns ironing technique left a lot to be desired) but the new one is hugely gorgeous and we can all look forward to some real comfort over the coming seasons.

Anyway back to the weekend which was well scorchio. Saturday was actually unbareably hot as everyone lounged around trying to find some breeze until @ 5'ish when it was time to cook alfresco (and also outside) the first mackrel of the year that Keith had caught for us earlier.

Strangely for such a hot day we did have the odd shower which never came to anything and just spent the day outside chatting to the neighbours whilst Ann and Amanda went to take a precursory look at the new caravan tailed by the imposing camp Maori saleswoman.

Such a warm day, mixed with numerous bottles of wine and fish suppers inevitably took its toll and most of us apart from Bethan and John were tucked up well before midnight.

The morning came and after a bit of a clean up John, Clive and I were about to head up the owners club to see England take a pasting from the Ozzies (oh how we laughed) when Denise (Tama tai Tama tai cwra cwra) from the club came down with the keys for the new van before John and Ann committed for one last look (typical bloody woman - 15 minutes before kick off).
It didn't take long (far less time than John usually spends on buying a video recorder to be honest) to realise what a fantastic offer they had and more or less there and then the decision was made although Jonathans sleeping position is going to be interesting to say the least in the next few months.

The girls left the men to watch the rugby and after returning to the van John went straight to the club and flexed his plastic. Ann then mysteriously did her back in on the way back to the caravan and returned to rest whilst John, Amanda and I went for a walk along the beach.

The waves have returned and on such a beautiful day there was only one thing to do - Jelly fish have mysteriously disappeared, thank Goodness, so surf board comes out for the first time this year. God I'd forgotten how great it is to feel the sea spray in your face and see the turquoise waves arching over in long straight lines in front of you.

When the weathers like this theres few paces I'd rather be - its definitely the most fun you can have with your clothes on (and the waters far to cold to get them off for sure).

After getting back to the van the next thing to do - BBQ. Now Sunday Barbies are never the same because you have to drive home but this was a lovely afternoon spent out the front relaxing with the stunning views in front of us and the promise of more to come.

A late drive home, too late to be honest, ensued after watching Wales narrowly lose to Argentina (wisely conducted in the caravan after giving the English people up the club plenty of stick as their team was beaten earlier in the day) to see Bronwyn once again who had stayed home 'revising' just before everyone crashed out after another good weekend was had by all.
